Educational Goal
Our objective is to develop human resources who have undergone the education and research into the academic truths and theories ranging from the basics to the application related to Information Science and Biomedical Engineering, who have consolidated the intricacies of the field, and who are willing to use what they have learned to contribute to the development of local and international communities. To do so, we aim to develop professionals who will have sufficient knowledge and application capabilities in Information Science and Biomedical Engineering, a good understanding about human cognition and biological systems, the expertise to solve problems creatively in the combined field of Information Science and Biomedical Engineering, and a high level of ethical judgment.
Diploma Policy of the Information Science and Biomedical Engineering Program
A Master’s Degree will be conferred on students who have studied for the designated length of time at the Graduate School of Science and Engineering, completed the Master’s Degree Program offered by the Information Science and Biomedical Engineering Program, obtained the designated credits, undergone Education and Research Supervision, and passed the examination on Master’s Thesis and the final examination.
- ability to take a comprehensive and long-term perspective related to Information Science and Biomedical Engineering to make contributions to the happiness and wellbeing of humankind,
- sufficient knowledge and application capabilities in Information Systems, a good understanding of human cognition and biological systems, and the ability to creatively solve problems in the combined field of Information Science and Biomedical Engineering,
- ability to play a key role in highly original sciences in the specialized areas of Information Science and Biomedical Engineering, and the ability to use advanced, highly intellectual capabilities in Information Science and Biomedical Engineering to deal with diverse communities,
- ability to understand the necessity for the creation of science and technology related to Information Science and Biomedical Engineering, and the ability to contribute to the solution of various problems deriving from rapid changes in society, and
- ability to maintain high standards of ethics, and the sort of communication skills that are necessary to contribute proactively to the progress of local and international communities.
Curriculum Policy of the Information Science and Biomedical Engineering Program
A high-quality education will be provided according to the following policies through the curriculum of the Master’s Degree Program organized by the Information Science and Biomedical Engineering.
- Curricula are organized systematically from admission to degree acquisition.
- organize lectures and exercises to help students acquire the academic ability in the respective fields of their specialization, which is necessary to further the development of Information Science and Biomedical Engineering,
- educate students in ways that make Information Systems Engineering, Brain Cognitive Engineering and Biometric Engineering complement each other so that students acquire a broad range of specialized academic ability which is necessary to grasp a problem from a multiple of different perspectives, and a good sense of ethics,
- help students utilize their solid specialized academic ability to work proactively on research tasks in Information Science and Biomedical Engineering, and offer specialized education so that they develop their ability to find a new direction,
- offer education to help students make presentations on their research results at academic conferences on Information Science and Biomedical Engineering in order to hone their skills in presentation and discussion, and
- develop the language ability and communication skills which are necessary to work with their overseas research counterparts.

Admission Policy of the Information Science and Biomedical Engineering Program
1. Desired qualities
- commit to the Educational Goals of the Information Science and Biomedical Engineering Program and have the basic academic ability and communication skills to achieve them,
- be fully interested in the problems of Information Science and Biomedical Engineering and willing to grapple with those problems, and
- aspire to utilize expertise in Information Science and Biomedical Engineering and embody high standards of ethics to contribute to the local and international communities.
2. Capabilities desired in students
Applicants are required to have expertise/skills related to Information Science and Biomedical Engineering and a high level of knowledge/ability in a foreign language (English). If you apply for the Special Admissions in Other Fields, you are required to have the basic academic ability worthy of a bachelor’s degree holder, the knowledge/skills in your specialized field and foreign language ability (English).
3. Basic Principle of Candidate Screening
The General Selection (oral examination) evaluates applicants’ knowledge/ability related to the specialized fields of Information Science and Biomedical Engineering and aptitude/motivation which are necessary to achieve the status of human resource outlined in the Educational Goals through an interview including an oral examination. Also to be taken into account is the grade achieved at the school the applicant has graduated from and the Statement of Reasons for Applying.
The General Selection (written examination) evaluates applicants’ knowledge/ability related to Information Science and Biomedical Engineering, reading comprehension in a foreign language (English) and aptitude/motivation, all of which are necessary to achieve the status of human resource outlined in the Educational Goals through an examination on the specialized fields and a foreign language (English), and an interview. Also to be taken into account is the grade achieved at the school the applicant has graduated from.
Recommendation Special Selection evaluates applicants’ knowledge/ability related to the specialized field of the Information Science and Biomedical Engineering and aptitude/motivation through an interview including an oral examination. These abilities are necessary to achieve the status of the sort of human resource stated in the Educational Goals. Also to be taken into account is the grade achieved at the school the applicant has graduated from and the Statement of Reasons for Applying.
The Special Admissions in Other Fields appraises applicants’ ability, aptitude and motivation all of which are necessary to achieve the status of the sort of human resource outlined in the Educational Goals. The appraisal is conducted through an interview, including an oral examination. Also to be taken into account is the grade achieved at the school the applicant has graduated from.
The Special Selection for Those in Employment evaluates applicants’ knowledge/ability in Information Science and Biomedical Engineering and aptitude/motivation, all of which are necessary to achieve the status of human resource defined in the Educational Goals through an oral examination. Also to be taken into account is the grade achieved at the school the applicant has graduated from and the Performance (Operation) Report.
The International Students Special Admissions evaluates applicants’ knowledge/ability related to Information Science and Biomedical Engineering, reading comprehension in a foreign language (Japanese or English) and aptitude/motivation through an examination on the specialized subjects related to Information Science and Biomedical Engineering, a foreign language subject (Japanese or English), and an interview. These qualities are necessary to achieve the status of human resource defined in the Educational Goals. Also to be taken into account is the grade achieved at the school the applicant has graduated from.
